A feature staircase to transform a commercial office/studio space.
Vertex Tower is a 16-storey apartment building in the Greenwich Creekside development in London SE8. With the ground floor being used for commercial and retail outlets.
One such outlet belongs to Meystyle LED wallpaper and fabrics. Meystyle is a London based design company specialising in LED wallpaper, an exclusive technology pioneered in 2004. They were tasked with transforming their bare new studio space into an eye-catching workplace.
Meystyle appointed Rayward to deliver a bespoke feature staircase to allow access to their mezzanine level. Given Rayward’s technical expertise in finding innovative solutions, they were in safe hands.
The vision was to install a striking yet simple stairway while delivering a high-quality look to complete this modern office space.
The height of the mezzanine deck versus the length of the staircase meant for a challenging design. To overcome this we cleverly design a neat top winder section and a half step that perfectly met the tiled finish floor. We managed to achieve this without the need for any supporting posts to the underside of the staircase to allow the client maximum uninterrupted workspace below.
Included within our design brief was a run of steel balustrades to match those on the staircase that guarded the edge of the mezzanine level. Along with a rolling timber, library-style ladder to access a lower storage area.
The staircase and balustrades were finished in a powder-coated grey colour to best match the finished concrete walls. This helped the dark oil stained hardwood timber treads to pop out forming a wonderful contrast.
We enjoyed working with our client and overcoming the challenges of the project and are proud of the finish we managed to achieve.
