Private garden restoration project in the heart of Guildford town centre.
Pewley Cottage was the subject of an extensive restoration and extension project in the centre of Guildford’s town centre. The topography of the land meant there were three sets of stair balustrading required, together with railings around three light wells and an escape ladder.
There was also a car park on an upper level which required ‘crash railings’ in the event of a car backing up to the edges and further railings around a large protected yew tree to stop intruders circumventing the security gates.
We needed to find the correct infill bars and design to set off the great refurbishment and landscape gardens of the property to ensure the railings worked with the new stone steps. The client wanted a simple, unfussy approach that would complement the Georgian architecture while providing a distinctly contemporary edge to the modern extension at the rear and the newly created garden.
“We were delighted with Rayward, the brief was not straightforward and we needed their advice and expertise to devise solutions for us. I showed them some pictures of railings styles I liked and they were able to interpret these to suit the design requirements. We love the finished result.”
